When Did Man Ever Get The Moral Compass Right?
The official term is called relativism.
Relativism dictates that the things that are deemed to be right, are the things that the vast majority accepts as being right.
There was a time when:
- Black people were bought and sold as slaves, view at as disposable and that was "right"
- Women were not allowed to vote, and that was "right"
- Jews (as they were called) were an inferior race that needed to be exterminated (not just by
Germany) and that was "right"
- Anyone who was seen to have leprocy (lepers) were isolated and looked down upon as unclean
and of very low social acceptance.
Crazy?
How about what goes on now?.....
The pornography industry is no stranger to slavery. Women are abducted, lured, and bought from foreign countries all the time to be supplied to the pornography industry. Although we don't see that as "right", we tolerate it because it goes largely unseen.
Women in the Middle East have only recently been permitted to vote. Some Countries, still do not allow it. We tolerate that because "it's their culture"
Bet you it wasn't long ago when you heard a racial slur or a racial joke. Ever hear the term "Raghead? Packie? What about the term "jewing him down" when relating to getting a good deal? Is that right? or is it just tolerated?
People with H.I.V are still looked at as low social or moral standing and I've heard on many
occasion the notion of putting them all on an Island to "isolate" the problem.
Have things really changed? Has our moral compass shown us what is right based on what is acceptable or tolerated today? What I tuly find facinating, is how so many people deny the existance of God, yet they view the ten commandments as a good image of what makes a good person. There's only one problem with that.....
It's only the non believers that think that they can accomplish them.
Those of us that know the teachings of Jesus know that, not only can it not be done, but we're not expected to do it!
Here's the "true north" to the compass that will never change.
1) Love God first with all that you are.
2) Love your neighbor as you would yourself.
no more 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, or 10. Just the two. You do that, you've truly become a Saint.

That's the "love your neighbor" part. I really wish it wasn't such a reach for some.
Our moral compass is a thought provoking topic.
So many of us justify why we say what we say or think.... at times being raised in a small town and being naive I often used some of those terms without realizing it was bad.
Somtimes we are ignorant not just in attitude but also in education. So many people have been sucked into the thought process of following what everyone else does without thinking it through.
I am thankful that the HOly Spirit is there to guide us and help us with our moral compass.
